The Conversation of Books in the Library
“Once, I grew up in a library much like this. Every book was a friend, a guide. Now technology devours everything in an instant; yet words still nourish the soul. Let us listen to the voices of the books…”
The scent of dust, the faint rustle of pages, and the dim light… The library stood like a temple quietly resisting time. The books on the shelves seemed to lean toward one another, ready to start a deep conversation…
“Hey everyone… Nobody came today again!” said the old novel with a missing cover, its pages leaking sorrow yet filled with sharp anger.
“Will they ever come? People watch 30-second videos instead of opening books,” hissed the encyclopedia. “All they want to learn is ‘how to get rich in 5 minutes’ or something.”
“Exactly!” said the history book. “I carry hundreds of years inside me. And they watch ‘Ottoman history in 3 minutes’ videos and think they’re wise. Ha-ha!”
A children’s book jumped in: “I don’t get it… Those people in the videos jump, shout, flashy words pop up… Something about ‘attention tricks.’ We’ve been touching hearts with words for years. Are your flashy effects more valuable?”
The science fiction book joined: “We imagined technology, and they betrayed us. People no longer exercise their imagination. They just imagine whatever they see in a video, that’s all.”
The romance novel rolled its eyes: “Once, people would turn my pages slowly, fall in love with the characters. Now they watch a 10-second love video and say, ‘Wow, so romantic.’ So romantic… Then three seconds later, onto another video.”
The philosophy book snorted: “In this age of fast consumption, friends… Reading takes effort. Videos just skim with ‘we already told you.’ Yet true knowledge is digested with thought. But nobody takes time to think anymore.”
The poetry book on the top shelf added with a hint of irony: “Let it be… Videos are their new toys. One day, they will get bored. Then they will return here, between the pages. Shall we say ‘Welcome back,’ or ‘Where have you been?’ I can’t tell…”
A ripple of laughter traveled across the shelves. Because the books knew: Videos come and go, but words… remain forever.
Remember, videos may entertain you… but reading and books change you.
